Understanding Wildlife Through Camera Traps
As part of this learning series, a dedicated session was conducted by the Kalinga Foundation focusing on the use of camera traps in wildlife conservation. Camera traps are motion-sensor cameras placed in forests to observe animals in their natural habitat without any human interference. During this session, learners were introduced to the actual device and its functioning through live demonstrations conducted at school by the facilitators from Kalinga Foundation.
The demonstration helped learners understand how these cameras automatically capture photographs or videos of animals when movement is detected, enabling researchers to collect crucial data on species presence, behaviour, and population patterns. The session offered Grade 7 learners a valuable insight into modern conservation tools and highlighted how technology plays a vital role in protecting wildlife and ecosystems.
